Wyatt & Alicia’s Blue Sky Barn Wedding | A Joyful & Romantic Day in Northern Michigan
If I’m being honest, this day was everything. Wyatt and Alicia’s wedding at Blue Sky Barn in Elmira, Michigan was filled with laughter, love, a few unexpected surprises—and truly so much heart. I’m still smiling thinking about it all.
The morning started with a wild thunderstorm, and we were all watching the radar like hawks wondering what the day would bring. But by some miracle (okay, maybe Michigan magic), the skies cleared up and the sun came out to bless us with the most beautiful day. I'm starting to believe the old saying: rain on a wedding day really is good luck. ☀️
When I pulled up to Blue Sky Barn, I was immediately reminded why I love photographing Northern Michigan weddings so much. The guest house where Alicia got ready had this elegant, elevated country charm—and walking in felt like stepping into something special.
Her dress was hanging beautifully, ready to be photographed (and yes, I took so many detail shots!). The energy in the room was joyful and cozy, with Polaroids scattered everywhere. Alicia had been documenting the weekend with instant photos, and I honestly couldn’t resist including them in a few of her flat lays. It was just so her—sentimental, creative, and full of heart.
The moment Alicia got into her dress with the help of her sweet mama was incredibly emotional. Her bridesmaids teared up, and so did I (behind the camera, of course). It was one of those moments that makes everything pause for a second—the kind you know they’ll remember forever.
And then—cue the tail wags—Timber, their sweet pup, came running in to join the fun! He was part of so many moments throughout the day, and I absolutely loved that he got to be included in such a big way.
Before the ceremony, we had time set aside for wedding party photos, and oh my gosh—they were such a fun group. Everyone was in high spirits and totally ready to celebrate Wyatt and Alicia.
I love when we get to do these photos ahead of time because it gives the couple more freedom later in the day to relax and enjoy their guests. The energy was so good—laughing, cheering, goofing off—and we got so many joyful, candid moments.
One of my favorite parts? Alicia had planned to shotgun a beer with Wyatt, and it was right there on the timeline! That moment was so fun and perfectly “them”—laid-back, playful, and ready to kick off an incredible day.
Their first look was beautiful. Wyatt cried, Alicia cried, and they shared the sweetest, most genuine moment together. I love first looks for exactly that reason—having the space to see each other, breathe, talk, exchange personal vows if you want to, and just be you before all the big moments begin. It’s always such a grounding and meaningful part of the day.
The ceremony took place under sunny skies, and Wyatt’s aunt officiated, which made it so personal and heartfelt. I loved listening to every word she shared—it was warm, intentional, and really honored their relationship. Watching them say “I do” and go in for their kiss surrounded by their loved ones was such a joyful, emotional moment.
Afterward, the celebration continued with the reception, and wow—it was such a party. Wyatt and Alicia made their grand entrance with Timber in their arms (YES, even Timber made an appearance again!) and everyone cheered them on.
Later in the evening, Alicia sprayed Wyatt with champagne, and it was hilarious—one of those unplanned moments that just brings the biggest smiles.
We snuck out for some sunset portraits, and even though the sky had turned cloudy, the light was still so soft and beautiful. That’s when I had an idea—back at the guest house, there was a vintage clawfoot tub. I asked if they’d trust me to try something a little different... and they said yes. 🙌
They grabbed some champagne and climbed in for a few fun flash photos in the tub, and I’m obsessed with how they turned out. I love when couples are up for anything—even the slightly unconventional ideas—because those unexpected moments often turn into some of the most memorable images. These photos were fun, vibey, and full of personality, and I just know they’ll smile every time they look back on them.
The night ended with a packed dance floor, and it was wild in the best way. “Fireball” came on and fireball shooters were passed around. Then “Thunderstruck” played and the drinking games began. Everyone was dancing, laughing, celebrating—and it was clear just how loved Wyatt and Alicia are.
This day was full of joy, emotion, laughter, and love. And I’m just so, so grateful I got to be the one to document it all. Wyatt and Alicia—thank you for being the absolute sweetest, for including me in your story, and for trusting me every step of the way.
From your engagement session to this unforgettable wedding day, it’s been such a joy to get to know you both. You’re truly something special. 🥹
